The IDRA Award for The Most Resilient City recognizes and celebrates the outstanding efforts of a city that has demonstrated exceptional foresight, innovation, and adaptability in creating sustainable infrastructures and implementing best practices to thrive in the face of climate change and water scarcity challenges. This prestigious award aims to highlight cities that serve as models for building resilient communities capable of withstanding and adapting to the impacts of environmental changes.
Criteria:
This award is presented to the city that has created infrastructures and best practices for a community that can thrive and adapt to climate change and water scarcity in the following areas:
- Integrated Climate Resilience Planning: TThe winning city will have a comprehensive and integrated climate resilience plan that addresses the challenges posed by climate change and water scarcity. This includes strategies for water management and smart infrastructure development.
- Water Scarcity Mitigation: The awarded city will showcase effective measures for mitigating water scarcity, such as the development of alternative water sources, efficient water use and conservation practices, and the implementation of advanced water recycling and reuse technologies.
- Infrastructure Adaptability: Consideration will be given to cities with resilient infrastructure that can withstand extreme weather events and adapt to changing climate conditions. This includes innovative solutions for water infrastructure, transportation, energy, and other critical systems.
- Community Engagement and Education: The recipient city will actively engage its community in resilience-building efforts, providing education and awareness programs to empower residents to contribute to and benefit from the city’s resilience initiatives.
Presentation:
Presented at the IDRA World Congress 2024 in Abu Dhabi, graciously hosted by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. This award aims to inspire and recognize cities that have successfully prioritized resilience, providing a blueprint for others to follow in building sustainable, adaptable, and thriving communities in the face of climate change and water scarcity.
The IDRA is honored to spotlight the city that has not only created infrastructures that allow its communities to thrive, but also designed its infrastructure to adapt to climate change and water scarcity.
Nomination Process:
